Trust - A Community Book Art project
Recently library visitors were invited alongside local writers and artists in “Trust” a creative community book project
that fostered collaboration between artists, readers and writers in the spirit of John Caselberg and Colin McCahon.
Library visitors were able to write a short story, create a poem or draw a picture in response to words from John
Caselberg’s poem ‘The Fount’ in fifteen fabulous blank books that will now become part of the City's Collection in the McNab
New Zealand Room.
Artists in residence worked in the region's libraries throughout the four weeks of the project and gave visitors a chance
to see weaving, mosaics, painting, printmaking, poetry, digital, and sketching in action.
‘TRUST’ was a collaboration between Dunedin Public Libraries and the John and Anna Caselberg Trust. The Caselberg Trust
is a non-profit organisation that is developing a cottage at Broad Bay as a writer’s and artist’s residency. The cottage will
provide a focus for further collaborations among writers, artist and other creative workers.
John Caselberg was a Broad Bay writer who worked closely with the painter Colin McCahon who provided stage designs for
Caselberg’s plays while the poet provided text for some of the artist’s celebrated text works.
